2013 New York Auto Show – Jaguar XKR-S GT

Jaguar XKR-S is, in no way, a slow car. It’s a seriously fast, 550PS machine that will easily give any supercar a run for its money. But the bosses at Jaguar thought that it wasn’t enough and there lies the cue for the Jaguar XKR-S GT to make a grand entry. Jaguar has gone ahead and unveiled a more mental street legal version of an already potent car at the 2013 New York Auto Show and calls it the XKR-S GT. Only 30 of these cars will be manufactured, out of which 25 are reserved for the United States of America and the remaining five will go to Canada.

The supercharged V8 of the XKR-S remains unchanged and so are the power and the torque figures but instead, Jaguar has worked on tuning the other necessary bits that effectively transmit all that power and torque to the tarmac which essentially means that the XKR-S GT will be a hoot to drive on a racetrack. The new car features a hood with distinctively styled louvers to aid the engine cooling, Carbon fiber finds its way on the redesigned front air splitter, dive planes and extended wheel arch spats. It also gets a brand new rear diffuser, an aluminum front under tray and a huge massive wing on the back to enforce maximum down force.

That’s not all; Jaguar has also put in some extra hours working on the underpinnings of the vehicle. Unlike the XKR-S, retuned and height adjustable dampers are standard underneath and spring rates have also been increased at both front and rear by 68 per cent and 25 per cent respectively. Most of the suspension has been upgraded and the larger carbon ceramic brakes and wider 20-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli Corsa tyres - 255/35-series rubber in front and 305/30-series at the back - are now standard. As if all this was not enough, faster steering rack has been added for improved agility and there's also a revised active exhaust system, which amplifies the already monstrous sound track coming out the back of the Jag.

The cost of all that British tech and mind numbing fun? Rs 94.69 lakh when it goes on sale in August.
