Porsche has unveiled what it calls as the “world’s first plug-in hybrid”in the form of the new Panamera S E-Hybrid. The electrical drive train in the Panamera S-E Hybrid makes 95PS which is double of what the previous-gen model used to make. A new Li-ion battery pack is from where the motor draws it’s energy. Using the standard Porsche charger, the motor can be charged in less than four hours. Porsche claims that the Panamera S-E hybrid will have a realistic electric-only range between 18-36km depending on the driving conditions. In pure electric mode, it will have a top speed of 135kmph with the 0-100kmph mark breached in just 5.5 seconds. The parallel hybrid car when assisted by the petrol motor claims to have a top speed north of 270kmph.
On a different note, two new Panamera Gran Turismo models, currently only for the left hand drive markets, with a 15cm longer wheelbase will debut at the Auto Shanghai 2013. The Panamera Turbo Executive and 4S Executive models claim to have a more comfortable and luxurious seating arrangement for the rear seat passengers. Also making it’s world debut will be the 3-litre biturbo V6 engine in both the above variants as also in the regular S and 4S models. This engine replaces the 4.8-litre V8 and claims to have a 18 per cent better fuel efficiency than the former.
The Panamera S-E hybrid is priced at Rs 71.99 lakh while the Turbo Executive prices start from Rs 1.08 crore and the 4S Executive at Rs 83.65 lakh in North America.
